First Test is No Test for Red Army

The Red Army may not celebrate Memorial Day, but they deserve to enjoy the long weekend after Wednesdays performance. A balanced scoring attack, tenacious effort, and suffocating defensive zone play helped the army cruise to a 9-1 win; running their record to 4-0 on the early season.
The army struggled out of the gate, as Dockside brought the pressure in the first few shifts. Playing their patented box and one d zone the army limited the damage and weathered the early storm. An early power play goal from Bob turned the momentum. The Army never looked back and for the 4th consecutive week the army saw the third period clock run as they coasted to victory.
In what is becoming the army norm, the scoring was spread out. Bob had a breakout offensive night netting a hat trick to go with two helpers. Travis continued his stellar production pivoting the other offensive unit with a goal and 4 apples.
Army call up Tmac also played an important roll adding a beautiful top dog snipe in his first appearance with the army. He also made his physical presence felt that set the tone throughout the lineup.
Wallace was spectacular as usual, making many key saves early while the outcome was still in doubt.
The army will put its unblemished record to the test next Wednesday at 850 against Vandalay Industries, get your tickets early as Wednesday will be Marty Bobble Head night. Reports have this being the first sell out of the young season.

Army faces toughest test of early season

The army is back in action this weds, with the west coast game against Dockside. Dockside (1-0-2) is sporting some fiiilthy new unis this year and should be one of the better teams in the league. This will be a measuring stick for the Army who has rolled to three blowout wins to start the season.
Adding to the difficulty, the army will be without Vince (team leader in goals with 6) and Driscoll (defenseman point leader with 2). Attempting to fill the tuuks of the army’s top sniper is Novosibirsk Dynamo power forward, Tmac. Tmac is ecstatic about the call up to the Army, after putting up 38-16-54 with 284 pims for Novosibirk in the Serbian Elite League over the past two seasons, Tmac is finally getting a look with the big club. “Just looking to do my thing out there, skate my lane, make my presence felt in the lineup” said Tmac. He will skate with Travis and Peeks, whose line has combined for 22 points through three games.
Get to bed early everyone, we’ll see you at the rink tomorrow night.

Red Hot Red Army Cruises to 3-0 Season Start

Stylistically it wasn’t the same army team that came out of the gate with two straight shutouts, but the army will take it. Vince’s first hat trick of the season (6) set the pace and once again the army saw the clock run in the third for the third consecutive game. Two late goals from The Pub that the army would like to have back made the game look more competitive.

Travis continued his stellar playmaking, centering Vince and Peeks, with three assists to go with his second and third goals of the season. The balanced scoring is also a key to the early season success. Bob chipped in his second of the year, Marty (3) added two tallies and brogan extended his point streak to three with four helpers, including a beautiful power play assist. The offense is clicking and this will need to continue as the army faces its toughest test of the young season when they face the Dockside in the West Cost game next Wednesday at 11:10.

Hockey wasn’t the only thing on the army’s minds last night as they were treated to a surprise visit from new Nets owner, Russian billionaire, and friend of the army, Mikail Prokorov. Prokorov said, “its great to see the guys again, its been too long. I don’t get to the US much, and after losing the draft lottery a night out with the boys is needed.” Prokorov, who got was originally dubbed, “playboy” from army member Brogan, added that he couldn’t wait to get the army back to Moscow for a big blowout with his “hired talent”

We will have a stats update later in the day. Stay tuned.

Army rides a solid defensive effort to second consecutive shutout.

This clearly isn’t the same Red Army team that struggled to start last season. Clearly captain Marty’s offseason points of emphasis are working. The team is scoring goals with ease and playing strong team defense in their own end. The army had the early tilt last nite, and the crowd was late arriving; the flat atmosphere may have been a cause to the army only jumping out to a 1-0 lead on a goal from brogan (4th) in the first. Three in the second padded teh lead, The army added two in the third and put things on cruise control and ensure being on their couches in time for the start of the Bruins. Driscoll’s first of the year, jumping up on a 3-2 rush made it 2-0. We spoke to him after the game about that play:

The army’s balanced scoring from both lines also helped pace the victory. Vince chipped in with his second and third of the year. He likes the way the squad is playing

The story of the night was once again the Army’s tender, Wallace. Here are his thoughts.

While Morgan and Hog have yet to show up in the stat sheet, their defensive play is a key part of the back to back blankings.

Offseason addition Brogan continues to be white hot with 3 more points, we talked to him about his start.

Before the army hangs the championship banner Bob makes sure the squad doesn’t get to far ahead of its self, teams got to keep playing team defense to win.

Red Army Cruises to 7-0 Season Opening Win

The Red Army unceremoniously welcomed Restore Hockey to the Burlington league with a 7-0 drubbing to start the season. The army debuted its new offensive lineup to rave reviews. The Army broke the bank this offseason for Greg Brogan who found himself a free agent after the folding of Team Middlesex after last year. It may be early but if last night is any indication the signing looks to be a success as brogan set the pace scoring three and capping off the trick with a dazzling back hand roof job in the third. We caught up with him after the game to get his thoughts.

Vince also chipped in with a patented “Vince” goal as he put home a rebound while standing behind the goalie, expect a lot more of those skating with Trav and Peeks. We talked to Vince outside the locker room after the win.

Not to be out done by the offensive performance of the Army goaltender Josh Wallace was in midseason form, stopping several grade A scoring changes on his way to the teams first of what will undoubtedly be many shutouts this season. How did he feel about the effort? After a quick thought from Trav, we get Wallace’s key to the victory.

We also spoke to some veteran members of the Army and got their thoughts on the teams first win. Here's what Bob, Hog and Morgan thought of the win.

We tried to catch up with Peeks and Army Captain Marty following the win but they were quickly ushered to a season ticket holder meet and greet following the win, the look on those kids faces as they met two of their heroes was something to see.

Check back next week as the Army takes on the Durans at 6:30 at the Ice Palace and as always

The Army is Back

The Army kicks off its third season Wednesday night in Burlington. The off season was a tumultuous one for the squad. Captain Marty has seen his roster turnover some from last season. Gone are two regulars, Nester and Sheehan. Added to the squad is Travis and Brogan. Look to them to add to the offensive firepower the army already possessed. The rest of the squad and back and we got some new shaaaaarp uni's. Puck drops at 8:50 this week. Stay tuned for post game sound from the locker room following what will surely be an army rout.
