Army Battles Hard Improves Record to 5-0

The Red Army faced its toughest test of the young season last nite in old foe Vandalay Industry. The game was chippy, the pace was furious, and the result was the same for the Army.
Unable to get much going through much of the first period the Army capitalized on a broken play late in the first to break the ice. Morgan threw a puck towards the net that ended up on the stick of brogan, after a skillful maneuver to the backhand, Brogan roofed the puck for a dandy of a goal, his 7th of the young season.
The second period saw no goal scoring as the game took a more physical tone.
Heading into the third period it was the first time the Army didn’t have a blowout lead. Facing their first legitamite third, the army responded with a second tally as Peeks sent a puck to an open space that Vince muscled his way into to flip a backhander past the Vandalay tender. Vince’s 7th of the year ties him with brogan for the team lead. Vince will be quick to assure you that he has played one less game than Brogan to accumulate those 7 tallies.
After the Army took a 2-0 lead Vandaley battled hard; and after receiving a fortuitous bounce narrowed the margin to 2-1 with about 8 minutes to go.
The army, staring at the prospects of blowing a 2-0 third period lead quickly responded with a hard fought shift from the Trav line. Late in that shift Vince found a loose puck and once again out muscled a defender to find peeks open by the post. Peeks’ 4th of the year extended the cushion back to 2 and the army never looked back.
Solid defensive zone play and once again spectacular goaltending from Wallace were keys to victory.
The crowd was bonkers at the Ice Palace, as one spectator noted, “I haven’t seen a more intense hockey game in my entire life.”
The win for the Army sets up the dream matchup that our parent television network CTC (Сеть Телевизионных Станций) was praying for, as the remaining two unbeatens square off next Wednesday. The game will be at 11:10pm Burlington time in order for CTC to air “Breakfast with the Army” back in Moscow. The game will air at 7:10 am local Moscow time. Pregame starts at 6:40 locally, There will be an exclusive one on one interview between Army tender Wallace and Soviet Hockey Icon Vladislav Tretiak.
